My Sappy Post About The Love Of My Life

8 Feb

I was 17 and alone and lost and there you were

Someone as broken as me. As sad as me.

And I focused on fixing YOU because I was too scared to fix ME

The world told me it was all wrong. We were all wrong.

Disapproving shakes of the head

Families bowing their heads in defeat

I knew you had baggage

But I wanted to help you unpack it and

fold it nicely to fit the life I wanted for US

Years passed

Tears passed

Mistakes were made daily

One child was born

Children are supposed to fix problems, right?

Well nothing was fixed

Everything was falling apart

A second child will fix problems, right?

But there we stood

Defiant against the world

And then one day something magical happened

We both woke up and decided we had enough of it

Enough stress

Enough fighting

Enough of being BROKEN

But instead of throwing our marriage out with the garbage

We decided we would fix it

And with enough love

and faith

and prayer

and HOPE

Things got better

And we smiled

And meant it

And we told people we were OK

And we weren’t lying

And we said I love you

And I got butterflies

And I realized I never needed to fix HIM

Because he wasn’t broken

Are You Finished Yet?
