My Babies Are Growing Up!

20 Aug

Well, today was the day. The kids started dance classes this morning! I about died when I got Ariahna into her ballet outfit. Holy cuteness! I will try to remember to post a picture later.

It was a rocky start to the day. Nikkos somehow lost his dance shirt and after turning the house upside down we came to the conclusion that it vanished and I would have to buy him a new one. I despise spending money on stuff we don’t need so you can imagine how good of a mood I was in. We were also running late because Ariahna despises having her hair done and it had to be up for her ballet class.

After crying and bobby pins flying and my anxiety skyrocketing we were out the door about ten minutes later than I hoped we would be. Luckily things went pretty well from there. We were still somehow the first people to the class and the women at the studio were all really friendly. I was also worried that all of the other girls in her class would be twice her age, but I was pleasantly surprised that they were all around her age. She was probably the youngest, but not by much.

The teacher led all 8 adorable girls and anxious moms into the room where her class was. The teacher took the kids to one side of the room and the anxious moms stood on the other side waiting for someone to pry us away from our little girls who are growing up too fast. We stood there for a few minutes before we all exited with lumps in our throats. Ariahna was the only one of the girls who cried when the parents left. Luckily the studio owner sat with her until she was calm and had forgotten about my absence.

There is a window that the parents can watch through. The blinds were closed, but we all peeked through and saw small glimpses of our girls making their first dancing attempts. It was quite cute actually. Ariahna was the worst listener of the group which was a little embarrassing. I am thinking it is because she has never really been in a structured environment with other kids.

Nikkos had his first tap/jazz class right after Ariahnas ballet class and it was with the same teacher. I knew I wouldn’t have any issues with him. He will be the kid on the first day of school who can’t push me out of the classroom fast enough. His class only has him and 2 other little girls. The teacher is really excited to have a class with a little boy in it. He did a great job in his class and took it VERY seriously. It was cute.

I am pretty excited about what this year brings. The studio is really nice and the teachers and staff are so welcoming. I even chatted with a few other moms during the classes and they were all friendly too. I used to be the mom who got ignored and a lot of the time people asked if I was the babysitter. I guess 4 1/2 years of parenting under your belt can age you because none of them treated me differently.

I have a feeling Nikkos will love dance. The verdict is still out with Ariahna. I figured that’s how it would be. She’s my little wild child.

Nikkos has his all boys dance class on Wednesday. Tom is taking him so they can have some father/son bonding. Hopefully he likes that class too.
