The Reason I Write

16 Aug

I was telling my husband how I thought it was a little strange that people really care to read what I write. I would consider myself to be a pretty average person and a pretty average writer. Who am I kidding? I am really quite boring. I am happy with my averagely mundane life to be honest. So, why do others care about it?

I am not writing some depressed and overly emotional blog. I get that I have value to my family and society. I know I matter. What I don’t get is why complete strangers care so much about my sons sarcasm or my thoughts on faith. Even acquaintances tell me how much they look forward to reading about my life.

My husband thinks it is because I write about topics that other people won’t write about. I told him my goal is not to be some controversial, mysterious face in the blogosphere. It got me to thinking why I write. I write to clear up space in my head for new thoughts to enter. I know. That sounds stupid. I don’t care.

I don’t write for other people and if that makes me vain and cold and a bit jaded then so be it. If others enjoy what I have to say then that is great too. In a world that is so focused on how others perceive you it is nice to have something for myself. And, let’s get real, blogging is far cheaper than therapy.

Off to tend to a two year old who is frighteningly covered in ketchup.

Later days blog world!

Excellent reasons for writing a blog, When you say: “I write to clear up space in my head for new thoughts to enter”, this is precisely what happens to me when I write.

Thank you for sharing your life , I look forward to reading your posts. Véronique

I am glad to hear someone understood what I meant. When I wrote it I thought it may seem self centered or crazy.
